Love Is In The Air-

This is a week of remembering Love.  Many folks feel like Valentine’s Day (the day I am writing this blog) is a Hallmark constructed holiday.  For me, Valentine’s Day is special.  My dad gave my mother a giant heart full of chocolate candy -probably Whitman’s back in the day.  He gave my sister a medium sized box and for me a small box of 6 pieces…with a card that said to My Little Pal.  Every year I would find them on the kitchen table on the morning of Valentine’s Day.  He kept up this remembrance until the end and sent them to me in the mail over the years.  He wanted his girls to know he loved them and well candy was one way to do it.

Over the years Valentine’s Day morphed into something I wanted to share with my friends – knowing that Love is everywhere and in everything…all relationships not just the sweetheart kind.  My pets are the great reminder of Love these days…and they greeted me this morning with the exuberance and joy they always do – and yes with a kiss or two.

Wednesday was also the first day of Lent- the Holy Season in the Christian tradition.  Whatever your tradition or no tradition might be – this is the grand celebration of a Love that is beyond understanding- the Love that is possible for all of humanity to know and experience.

I am sure every generation has thought that more Love was needed in their times than ever before….and I am joining that choir- we need Love for ourselves – we need Love for our others’ and we need Love for all of Life so that we can see straight, make the right decisions and enjoy the gifts life brings.  I know no other way of doing that than to dig deep and practice, practice, practice.

Love is more than a feeling – its more than an emotion – it’s a state, an essence that is eternally available as us.  We must come to know that and to be that in the moments of life – the easy ones and the not so easy ones.  For the people that gladden our hearts and the ones who try our patience.

This week as we launch into the beginnings of Spring – lets notice how much Love we have received and how much Love we have given.  I am smiling and thanking my Dad for his gesture of Love that has remained in my heart all my life.  And to all those who have crossed my path-sending you Lovingkindness now and always.  Join me in this movement – don’t just be the change, Be the Love.
